Meredith Horton
Board Vice Chair
Meredith Horton (she/her) is a social justice leader and consultant with over 15 years of experience supporting foundations and advocacy organizations in their efforts to be strategic and highly effective in tackling some of the United States’ most pernicious justice issues. As a consultant, Meredith brings her experience designing new management structures and processes to help organizations undergoing significant growth or change, and she supports groups looking to expand their reach, whether by adopting new advocacy strategies, moving into new geographic areas, or creating new programs. Drawing on her background in talent strategy, Meredith also works with social justice leaders to thoughtfully structure key senior and executive roles.
Having served as a thought-partner and advisor to senior and executive leaders in the social justice field, Meredith understands the importance of getting to know an organization’s culture and vision for the work when approaching a consulting project. She is a skilled listener and collaborative partner to her clients, and brings strong values of integrity, compassion, and creativity to her work.
Meredith has served in senior leadership roles at the Southern Poverty Law Center, Southern Coalition for Social Justice, and the Texas Civil Rights Project. This leadership experience is complemented by her tenure as a staff attorney at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and Senior Advisor for Voter Protection at the Democratic Party of Georgia, where she helped build and lead the state’s nationally-recognized voter protection program. Meredith also worked at the Legal Services Corporation – the nation’s single largest funder of civil legal aid programs – where she designed and led grantmaking processes and served in a program officer capacity, evaluating operations, board governance, and programming at legal aid organizations.
Meredith began her legal career as an attorney in the employee benefits and executive compensation practice at Venable LLP after graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Political Science from Barnard College in New York City.
