Cathy (she/her) serves as the chief operating officer for The Education Trust, a national nonprofit that works to close opportunity gaps that disproportionately affect students of color and students from low-income families. She began her professional career as a kindergarten teacher and school improvement coordinator in one of the most diverse schools in Los Angeles.
Prior to joining The Education Trust, Cathy served as the Chief of Staff and Secretary of Spelman College, where she provided leadership to campus-wide efforts in organizational change and strategic planning and managed the operations of the Board of Trustees. Cathy also worked as a senior consultant for Isaacson, Miller, recruiting executives and other senior managers to key leadership roles in non-profit organizations including public and private colleges and universities. Earlier in her career, Cathy spent many years at the Writers Guild of America, adjudicating issues for television and screen writers related to on-screen credit and other creative rights under the Guild’s collective bargaining agreement.
A native of Los Angeles, Cathy graduated from UCLA School of Law and received her teaching certification from the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies. She attended Spelman College and received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Cathy also completed a program for senior level administrators at the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Institutes for Higher Education Management.
