For over 20 years, Laura (she/her) has led social change efforts at grassroots and management levels across the non-profit and government sectors. She is currently an elected representative to the DC State Board of Education and formerly held senior leadership roles at the Flamboyan Foundation, Teach For America and Teach For All. Laura’s career began as an inner-city bilingual middle school teacher with Teach For America, after which she served in the Peace Corps as a teacher and community development worker. She later applied her field experience to policy work at the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Department of State and U.S. House of Representatives. Laura earned a Master in Public Policy from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Arts in politics from Wake Forest University with a minor in Spanish. She comes from a low-income family of 13 children and is the proud mother of twin elementary students.
